February 2020 Wrap Up

I felt a little better about this month! I read more than last month, which was nice. I think overall I enjoyed my books more, too. Let’s jump right in to what I read this month!

Ebooks Read

  1. Harmony by Addison Jane ★★★★
  2. The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller ★★★★★
  3. Second Star by JM Sullivan ★★★
  4. The Girl’s Weekend by Jody Gehrman ★★★
  5. We Are Blood and Thunder by Kesia Lupo ★★★
  6. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson ★★★★★
  7. Chasing Starlight by Teri Bailey Black ★★★
  8. Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen ★★★

Audiobooks Read

  1. Human Errors by Nathan H Lents ★★★
  2. The Last Black Unicorn by Tiffany Haddish ★★★★
  3. Buried Deep by Margot Hunt ★★★★
  4. My Lost Family by Danny Ben-Moshe ★★★

I had two favorite books this month – The Shadows Between Us and A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder! They were my only 5 star reads and so totally different. The Shadows Between Us is a fantasy about two bad people falling in love and being bad together. It was great. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’s inspiration came from true crime podcasts and it totally had that feel!

My least favorite book was probably Second Star or Lock and Key. Second Star was a sci-fi Peter Pan retelling and I just didn’t really connect with anyone. Lock and Key was like a day-to-day in the life of a teenager and it just wasn’t very enticing to me.

Stats

  • Goodreads Goal: 21/165. I’m 5 books behind schedule now, which is one more than last month. However, I read more so I think if I can keep up the pace I can get back on track!
  • I read 3204 pages, almost double last month! I also listened to 12 hours, 45 minutes, which is only two hours less than last month. My average rating was 3.5.
  • I read 1 erotica, 2 fantasy, 1 historical fiction, 3 mystery, 3 nonfic, 1 romance and 1 sci-fi.
  • I read 6 YA, 4 adult, and 1 new adult! I read 6 ARCs this month which was way better than last month.

Yearly Goals Check In

I didn’t think about doing this last month, so we will start here!

  • Monthly goal of 15 books a month – I read 12, 3 more than last month. I’m slowly getting there!
  • TBR Goal – I’ve kept up my TBR posts and even did a bonus post! I want to read 20 books off my tbr. I think I am at 3. I probably need to pick up the pace on that. I also want to get my TBR below 1800. I’m at 1904 so we’re getting there!
  • Words & Whimsy – I’ve done one author chat so far this year and I’m already scheduled for a couple more! It was so fun and I remembered why I loved it so much!
  • Book Battle – I used a lot of arcs that have been released as recs this month so that was great! I think I only missed two days of my discussion this month so that’s better!
  • My Blog – I wanted to do more blog tours and I think I have 3 coming in March! I wanted to up my follower count to over 150. I’m already at 151 in two months! THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!! As of right now, I’m not going to up this. I”m just going to see where this year takes me. I also wanted to post at least every other day. Earlier this month I missed a few days, but I’ve been going good these last couple of weeks!
  • I wanted to keep up with my Owlcrate reading planner. That lasted all of a week. However, I have kept up with 3 book log spreadsheets, so I say that’s still a win! I also thought about getting back into bookstagram, but that’s on the back burner for now. I’m doing good just to keep up with what I got!

January 2020 Wrapup

Yall, this was NOT my month. I said I wanted to read 15 books a month. Well. I only got to 9. I was in a super huge slump for a majority of the month and I’m not sure why.

Anyway, I’ll tell you what books I read, my monthly stats, and how my Goodreads goal is looking!

EBOOKS READ

  1. Grey by EL James – 3 stars. Not my favorite. Took me almost a week to read.
  2. The Center of the Universe by Ria Voros – 3.5 stars. Much better than Grey, but not my favorite book of the month.
  3. Don’t Read the Comments by Eric Smith – 5 stars. Favorite book of the month and maybe top 5 of the year?! Yes, it was THAT GOOD.
  4. Idol Thoughts by JS Lee – 4 stars. Cute, fun reverse harem featuring a K-Pop group. Great slump buster!
  5. The Wives by Tarryn Fisher – 4 stars. Had some great twists. The middle of the book had me so surprised.

AUDIOBOOKS READ

  1. I’m a Therapist and My Patient is Going to be the Next School Shooter by Dr. Harper – 3.5 stars. I thought these were real stories. They were not. Ending got kind of weird.
  2. Call Me God by Jim Clemente – 4 stars. Great book about the DC Sniper and how the FBI profiled them.
  3. Evil Has a Name by Paul Holes – 4 stars. Great follow up to I’ll Be Gone in the Dark about the Golden State Killer.
  4. Chase Darkness with Me by Billy Jensen – 4 Stars. It made me want to take up being an at-home detective! But really, he is doing great work.

Now for some stats!

First off, my Goodreads goal. 9/165. I’m 4 books behind schedule. I already have a plan for next month and I’m hoping to hit it!

I read 1697 pages and did 14 hours, 32 minutes of listening! My average rating was 3.88 stars.
I read three nonfic, two contemporary, two erotica, one horror, and one thriller. There were seven adult books and two YA. I only read one ARC this month. One of my books was #ownvoices!

What does your monthly wrap up look like? Did you read any of these books! Let me know in the comments below!

March Wrap Up

Guys, where did March go?! I was laying in bed last night after just finishing Warrior of the Wild and thinking about what I was going to write for my review. Then I thought, crap, I need to do my wrap up! At this point it was already 11pm and I knew I would hate myself in the morning, so I decided to do the wrap up today and my March plan tomorrow. Then after that you’ll get a review of Warrior of the Wild by Tricia Levenseller and The Program by Suzanne Young! Lots of content coming soon!

What I read in February:

The Tea Dragon Society by Katie O’Neill

Super cute graphic novel that I got from OwlCrate.
4 Stars

Fake Plastic Girl by Zara Lisbon

My first ARC of the month. I wasn’t super impressed. A TON of Taylor Swift references.
3 Stars

The Mermaid’s Voice Returns in This One by Amanda Lovelace

I binged Amanda Lovelace in February, so I was super excited to get an ARC of her third book. I loved the poetry, but it wasn’t my favorite.
4 Stars

The Manic Pixie Dream Boy Improvement Project by Lenore Appelhans

Third ARC of the month. I had to make myself finish. It was just too campy – and I didn’t think that was a thing. Plus the title is way too long.
2 Stars

The Demon Next Door by Bryan Burrough

This was my Audible pick of the month. Who doesn’t love a good murder mystery?
3 Stars

The Queen’s Rising by Rebecca Ross

This is where it starts getting good. I could not put this book down. Plus Rebecca was so sweet during her chat! Can’t wait to read The Queen’s Resistance!
5 Stars

What Happens When by Samantha Boyette

My fourth ARC of the month. It was also meh. I didn’t like the whole try – to – turn – the – girl – straight thing.
3 Stars

Enchanteehttps://www.goodreads.com/book/show/40956288-enchant-e by Gita Trelease

Oh man. This book was wonderful and so descriptive. I felt like I was in France the whole time. I loved all the French language that was incorporated. Gita is now an instabuy author for me!
5 stars

Girls With Sharp Sticks by Suzanne Young

This book makes you so uncomfortable in a good way. It was such a great read and my favorite ARC of the month by far. All the mods at Words & Whimsy gave it 5 Stars. And Suzanne was amazing during her Q&A!
5 Stars

How Not to Ask a Boy to Prom by S. J. Goslee

This book was cute, but the main character was slightly annoying.
3 Stars

Spellbook of the Lost and Found by Moira Fowley-Doyle

This was the second audio I got to this month. I loved the Irish voice actors and the way the past was woven in with the present. I did feel like the story dragged on a little.
3.5 Stars

The Program by Suzanne Young

Review to come. Man this was a great start to this series. I can’t wait for book two.
4 Stars

Warrior of the Wild by Tricia Levenseller

Another amazing read. Review to come. Officially a Tricia fan!
5 Stars

Alright guys, that’s it for my March wrap up! I finished criteria in Book Battle. Princesses came in last. Better luck this month! Be on the look out for my March plan!
